Monday 06th September
Day 3 Track, L´Aquila

Day 3 Track: 500m
Junior Ladies:
When you have athletes who are all capable of doing the same fast time, it’s inevitable that they if they all start in the same place at the same time, during the race, they will all be in the same place at one time. In a police report the final comment would read: ‘hence collision’.
And so it was on the last night of the track events.
Fortunately it did not happen till the race was run, but just after the finish line all 4 junior ladies did collide, sending 2 to hospital. Nicole Begg of New Zealand, with very sore ribs, stood once again on the podium to add yet another bronze medal to her ever growing collection.
From the US, Miss Brittany Bowe was also adding to her growing collection of medlas with another silver medal. It truely could have been anyones race, but it was Jersy Puelio of Colombia who snatched another gold medal.

Junior Men:
Colombia, Italy, counties who are sysnonymous with sprinting, took gold and silver, but France was able to take a peek at the medals, taking bronze. France who used to have it’s anthem played so often at Worlds, was now relegated to seeing their flag and their skater only on the podium, no anthem would be played for the French here tonight.

Senior Ladies:
There’s no stopping her. Argentina’s Andrea Gonzales, with her fast moving feet and unbelieveable lunge on the line was able to once again take gold and stand at the top of the podium. Colommbians do not give up and Jennifer Caicedo tried to the end, and must have missed out by the smallest of margins to take silver. Bronze to Colombia as well, little Ceci Baena (daugher of one of the Colombian press men) who has moved up to seniors, still casts her shaddow over the field with her great skating ability, if not her size.

Senior Men:
In a move that I thought was not possible in Italy, Luca Presti, after winning the 500m race convincingly, was disqualified. This made was for the other Italian in th race, Saggiorato to take 1st place, France’s Briand Pascal 2nd and New Zealand’s Kalon Dobbin, took 3rd.
