There
were a few dark clouds out, but
no rain luckily today for the
200m Time trial heats. With many
new nations, it took a long time
to get through all the skaters
as the referees taught many of
them how to do a time trial start.
I wish they could have had someone
teaching them to the side of the
track as it took ages to get through
all the skaters today. Many skaters
left to have the pretty Korean
girls give them body painting
and temporary tattoos.
At
the business end of town, Duggento
set the road on fire as he once
again broke his own 200m World
Record with a new time of 16.317!
However, unlike usual where
he has a big time gap on second
place, the entire qualifying
field of 12 men have all skated
under 17 seconds. Even 2 skaters
skated under 17 seconds and
missed out on the final which
is quite unbelievable. This
track is super fast. Jeisson
Martans of Colombia is the second
fastest qualifier with Kalon
Dobbin of NZ just slightly behind
him. With so many skaters so
close together, almost anyone
can win it.
The
womens race is also very tight
with the top 12 qualifiers for
the final all within eight tenths
of a second of each other. Jennifer
Caicedo of Colombia is in first
with the Italian's firing for
the first time with Erika Zanetti,
and Cecilia Baena of Colombia
just behind her. The host country
have just missed out on qualifying
in 13th and 14th position.
Danny
Sargoni of Italy has qualified
in the #1 position for the Junior
Men's race with a time of 17.182.
Myung Kyu Lee of Korea is only
three hundredths of a second
behind him and Joseba Fernandez
is only four one thousandths
of a second behind him.
Victoria
Rodriguez leads the Junior Women
ahead of Heather Richardson
of the USA and Maria Jose Moya
of Chile.
For
the first time in this championships,
we saw Poland, The Czech Republic,
Finland and Romania compete
today. Finland obtained a top
20 result in the men. There
is a long break until the afternoon
session where we will see the
200m finals followed by the
10,000 points race. |
